Overlord is a dark fantasy isekai series that focuses on power, strategy, and domination instead of the usual “hero saves the world” story.

The story begins when a popular online game called Yggdrasil is about to shut down. A player known as Momonga decides to stay logged in until the final moment. But instead of the game ending, he finds himself trapped inside it. Not only that, he becomes his in-game character: a powerful undead overlord named Ainz Ooal Gown.

Unlike most isekai protagonists, Ainz is not trying to return home or become a hero. He embraces his new identity and decides to conquer this new world. He commands the Great Tomb of Nazarick, a massive underground base filled with extremely loyal and powerful NPCs like Albedo, Demiurge, and Shalltear.

As the story progresses, Ainz builds his influence step by step. He manipulates kingdoms, defeats enemies effortlessly, and expands his power while trying to understand the new world and find other players like him. Even though he often appears calm and intelligent, many of his actions are driven by the need to maintain the image of a supreme ruler.

What makes Overlord unique is its perspective. Instead of following heroes, it follows what is essentially the “villain side,” showing how overwhelming power and absolute control can shape a world. It mixes political strategy, dark themes, and epic battles, making it very different from typical isekai stories.
